ESG: Social Responsibility
We are dedicated to enriching our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities to benefit local communities.
In past years, we launched several initiatives in different parts of the world to benefit local communities. In 2018, we decided to leverage ALE’s strengths to enrich our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.
Our fundraising program is employee-led, voluntary and strongly supported by our executive management team. It is grounded in our code of conduct which is the cornerstone of ALE’s business ethics, integrity and compliance commitment, and in the understanding, that to meet our strategic corporate objectives we also need to enhance and serve the communities where employees, partners and customers live and work.
Our annual ALE Values Day encourages fundraising and donations by ALE employees with matching donations made by the company. We also offer access to our communication technology and seek alternative methods to provide support, in alignment with our programme governance.
Our commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainability is evident in our actions and initiatives aimed at benefiting local communities. We recognize the importance of social responsibility in business and strive to integrate it into our operations. By embracing business and social responsibility, we aim to create positive impacts beyond financial gains. At ALE, we are committed to sustainability and social responsibility, recognizing the interconnectedness of social and environmental responsibility.
ALE Impact Mission
To positively impact our global community by delivering communications and infrastructure solutions to help those in need.
Partnerships
We strengthen our impact through focused global projects that allow us to deploy our core strengths and contribute to a humanitarian cause. Projects are reviewed and selected using these criteria:
- Supports a non-governmental organization (NGO, non-profit, voluntary citizens' group)
- Matches our vertical and/or cloud focus
- Requires communications and/or networks to meet their own NGO’s objectives
- Vetted by the Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise legal team
Mercy Ships
Mercy Ships Overview
Mercy Ships, an international charity that operates the largest non-governmental hospital ships in the world, have helped developing nations since 1978. They work with host nations to improve the local healthcare delivery system while serving the surgical needs of the host country and provide a variety of training opportunities for medical professionals.
Mercy Ships is an organization that aligns with ALE’s core expertise: hospitality, healthcare, transportation and education. Communications and networks are key factors for Mercy Ships to deliver their programs and provide the highest level of care to each of their patients and meet the needs of their students while on the ship. Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise products are already on board.
Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise has supported Mercy Ships as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility programme since 2018. Mercy Ships operates hospital ships that deliver free surgeries and other healthcare services to those with little access to safe medical care. Working with in-country partners, Mercy Ships also provides training to local healthcare professionals and supports constructing in-country medical infrastructure to leave a lasting impact.
Our annual ALE Values Day encourages fundraising and donations by ALE employees with matching contributions made by the company.
Qhubeka
Qhubeka (#Qhubeka) is a charity in South Africa that moves people forward with bicycles. People earn bicycles through the programmes, improving their access to schools, clinics and jobs.
A bicycle is a tool that helps people to travel faster and further and carry more. In the face of extreme and persistent poverty, bicycles can change lives by helping address socioeconomic challenges at the most basic level – helping people to get where they need to go. The hand is a reminder that every Qhubeka bicycle is a helping hand up to a Qhubeka beneficiary. It symbolises the power that bicycles have in changing lives. By supporting Qhubeka, we help children access education and help support skills development and job creation in South Africa.
Qhubeka is a Nguni word that means “to progress,” “to move forward.” Bicycles help people move forward and help change people’s lives. They are an accessible, reliable, affordable form of personal transport. The programmes run by the charity include Learn-to-earn, Work-to-earn, Health, Community Safety.
Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise has been supporting Qhubeka as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility effort since 2018. Our annual ALE Values Day encourages fundraising and donations by ALE employees with matching donations made by the company. We also offer access to our communication technology and seek alternative methods to provide support, in alignment with our programme governance.

Better Together: Women Leading The Way
Women lead the charge in breaking the glass ceiling. The underrepresentation of women in management can be attributed to systematic barriers and social norms.
Why diversity is good for business
A diverse team has an unquestionable advantage over one where strengths and skills are the same. However, the advantage only materializes if all members have the same access to the game. Today all employees are joining a global virtual event to celebrate our individuality and our power as a connected and inclusive Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise.
